Child-Friendly Library & Creative Learning Project – Shree Zebrang Basic School
Youth Foundation Nepal successfully completed the Child-Friendly Library and Creative Learning Project at Shree Zebrang Basic School, Ward No. 05, Shivapuri Rural Municipality, Nuwakot, in January 2022. The project was designed to create a safe, welcoming, and inspiring learning environment where children could read, explore, imagine, and develop their creativity, confidence, and learning skills.
The project established a child-friendly library equipped with age-appropriate books, locally designed and crafted furniture, attractive wall paintings and educational murals, book coding, and colorful book organization. A simple and practical library management system was also introduced, including library rules, lending registers, visitor records, book records, and activity registers to ensure effective and sustainable use of the library.
As part of the project, Youth Foundation Nepal conducted a Creative Collage Art Workshop involving students and teachers. The workshop encouraged children to express their ideas through art, develop imagination and creativity, strengthen teamwork, and participate in enjoyable and interactive learning activities beyond conventional classroom methods.
Teachers and students also received orientation on effective library use and available learning resources. The completed project has contributed to promoting regular reading habits, creativity, independent learning, confidence, and active participation among students.
The project was supported by Books for Change, Switzerland, with collaboration from Shivapuri Rural Municipality, Shree Zebrang Basic School, local people, and the wider community, strengthening community ownership and sustainability.
