Solar-Powered Computer Labs and E-Library Initiative – Dolpa
Since 2021, Youth Foundation Nepal (YFN), with the support of Books for Change, Switzerland, and in close collaboration with Tripurasundari Municipality, Dolpa, has been implementing a long-term initiative to improve digital education in remote communities of Dolpa. The initiative began with support to selected public schools and has gradually expanded, with YFN continuing to provide educational resources, technical assistance, repair and maintenance, and capacity-building support to ensure the sustainability of the facilities.
To date, the initiative has established solar-powered computer labs, e-library facilities, and offline digital learning resources in six public schools of Tripurasundari Municipality:
Shree Prakash Basic School,
Ranga-04; Shree Masta Basic School, Lha-05
Shree Kasturi Secondary School, Bhutingra-07
Shree Amarsingh Basic School, Muhu-11
Shree Janapriya Basic School, Chu-09
Shree Kanjirowa Basic School, Dapu-10.
The schools have been equipped with computers, solar energy systems, e-library resources, and offline educational content, enabling students to access digital learning materials despite limited electricity and unreliable internet connectivity. Teachers have also received training in basic ICT skills, computer lab operation, e-library management, and the use of digital resources in classroom teaching. Continued repair, maintenance, monitoring, and technical support have helped schools use these facilities effectively over the years.
The initiative is designed as a long-term and gradually expanding program. Based on the needs of local schools and communities, YFN is continuing to increase the number of beneficiary schools and extend access to digital education.
In 2026, YFN plans to expand the initiative to two additional schools:
Shree Jyoti Basic School, Tripurasundari Municipality–02, Rum, Dolpa,
Shree Bhagwati Basic School, Tripurasundari Municipality–07, Chala, Dolpa.
The expansion will further strengthen access to solar-powered ICT facilities, e-library resources, and digital learning opportunities for children in remote areas.
Through this continued partnership, YFN aims to create a sustainable, inclusive, and digitally connected education environment in Dolpa while helping bridge the digital divide and improve the quality of education for children in remote communities.
